Palo Alto Dining

Tonight I had dinner in downtown Palo Alto. I walked up and down University Avenue a couple of times stopping to look at menus of the various restaurants and cuisines that are available. There are definitely a lot of choices within a mile of one another. When I walked past Junnoon I thought that I had found my place of dining. However, after walking into the restaurant to look at a menu I was rudely addressed by the "host". Once I realized that the host was a "jerk" I decided that I needed to take my business elsewhere, so off I went to find a new locale.

Since I had awoken the hunger for Indian delicacy I turned around and headed back toward the Border's on University, until I arrived at the Hyderabad House. I took one look at the menu and knew immediately that I needed to dine here. The bone-in goat curry ($11.95) and chai ($1) caught my eye.

The restaurant itself has a pretty laid back feel with about 10 total tables. The laid back vibe is further experienced in that rather than having waiters, you order food at the counter.

My order of goat curry equipped with rice and naan took about 15 minutes, but it was well worth the wait. The collection of spices used to flavor the dish was perfect. The meat had been slow cooked and was falling off of the bone.

The chai was slightly disappointing, but the price more than made up for it. After all where in the U.S. can you get $1 chai?

Overall, I give the Hyderabad house 3.5 out of 6 stars.
